As if we needed one more reason to love NPR National Political Correspondent Don Gonyea….he’s opened up his personal campaign playlist, taking us on a journey from one battleground state to the next. It’s the music that he says keeps him sane on those long drives and many flights.

And no surprise, it’s a great list - no cliche victory songs here (Born To Run, anyone?). Just great music: Ray Charles, James Taylor, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris….

Have a Listen here.

And join Don (in Iowa) & the rest of us on election night here.

nprontheroad:

As promised, here’s a little taste of fall in NY21. The very best fall color was visible from the road, with orange, red and yellow popping from the otherwise still green mountainside in bold splotches. Even in the short time I was here, the colors grew more vibrant and widespread. The candidates will spend the next 39 days driving hundreds of miles in this massive district to give speeches and shake hands. And at least for the next couple of weeks it is going to be absolutely gorgeous.

I have to get ready to fly home this morning, so I’ll leave the NPR On the Road Tumblr here for now. Thanks for joining me on this trip. The story airs Monday afternoon on All Things Considered (barring breaking news).

Be sure to tune in to All Things Considered to hear Tamara’s stories from the NY21 campaign!

Sad solo birthday creme brûlée. The campaign calendar doesn’t pause for birthdays. One campaign staffer told me he spent his birthday making the long drive from Washington, DC to the North Country of New York to work on the campaign for NY21. As I worked through travel logistics, I realized this would be the best time for me to report on the race. Many a political reporter has spent her birthday on the road. So, I’m just following in a great tradition, right?

Our politics desk reporter Tamara Keith says she’s joining a great tradition in political reporting by celebrating her birthday solo. Tam, thanks for following the tradition to bring us your stories from the campaign, and happy birthday from your Tumblr fam!
